CARMONA, CAVITE (April 7, 2019) After much anticipation, the U15 age group in the 2019 Speed Regalo Youth Football League Season kicked off its matches at the Manila Jockey Club pitches with several teams clinching opening day victories to get an early advantage in the leaderboards.
Kaya Elite debuted with a convincing 4-1 over Ceres South; the winners set the tone early on, taking a 3-1 lead at the half. Ceres, mainly relying on its counter-attacking game, sought to mount a comeback but its efforts were iced by another goal from Kaya in the second half.
Newcomers Bohemian Sporting Club, coached by former Philippine Azkal Jason De Jong, banked on an early goal to cruise past Mendiola, 3-nil. Their goal off an indirect free kick put them in the driver’s seat and their disciplined defense allowed them to tally the clean sheet. Despite the result, De Jong pointed things to improve on for his team.
“I think we could use the wings way better because most of the time its very open on the sides and the finishing let us down a little bit because I think we had two or three open chances one-on-one,” elaborated De Jong.
Apuesto Bueno kicked things off in convincing fashion after cruising past Laos FC as well, 5-1. The day also featured an intense matchup between MSA Aguila and Forza wherein the former mounted a comeback and prevailed, 2-1.
“It’s a typical first game of the season. Both teams are trying to get to know each other’s game and you would see a back-and-forth, well-balanced first game,” said MSA’s General Manager Mr. Mike Andan.
A reborned rivalry between two prestigious clubs, Kaya FC Academy ‘04-’05 and Loyola FC, now in the youth division, went the way of the latter as they won via a shutout, 3-nil to the delight of their head coach Roxy Dorlas.
“I think the most important thing here right now is with the preparation we had, it’s important that we came out with the desire to be winning. It’s been a very short preparation as most of our players here have been competing in different competitions,” said Dorlas post-match.
The YFL will return on April 9, Tuesday with simultaneous games at the Ayala Alabang Country Club for the younger age groups and at the Manila Jockey Club for the matches to be streamed.
Here are the complete results for the April 7,2019 U15 games:
Kaya Elite 4, Ceres South 1
