2019 has proved to be eventful for Philippine football with the Philippines Football League seeing an invincible run from Ceres-Negros FC, the ongoing Copa Paulino Alcantara and the upcoming SEA Games but there’s still a lot more to come for the Philippines.
The Philippine Women’s National Football Team (PWNFT) made some huge strides over the last few years including a fourth-place finish in the recently concluded 2019 AFF Women’s Championship held in Chonburi, Thailand last August.
Now, another huge news for these ladies as the Philippines were granted the hosting rights for the 2020 AFF Women’s Championship as confirmed in the 4th AFF Council Meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam last November 8, 2019.
“It is a great honor for PFF to host the upcoming AFF Women’s Championship 2020,” said by PFF President Mariano Araneta. “Women’s football has been in the limelight due to the success of the Philippine Women’s National Team. This will be a perfect opportunity for local fans to watch and support the Philippine Women’s team as they fight for regional pride.”
With this, the Philippines will be hosting two successive senior women’s competition as this will come after the 2019 SEA Games. Thanks to all the hard work from these ladies as well as the Philippine Football Federation, the country will see the best of Southeast Asia in terms of women’s football.
“The Philippine Women’s National Team has been on a steady rise for several years already. We thank AFF for awarding PFF with the hosting of the tournament,” said Atty. Edwin Gastanes. “This upcoming hosting is the result of PFF’s continuous efforts in nurturing the development of women’s football in the country.”
While the women’s team are busy preparing for the upcoming SEA Games, this great news will surely give them a huge boost to bid for the medals as well as to look forward to what’s in stock for them.
