Busmen gear up for Miners clash

The battles in the AFC Cup are heating up, as the managers of Ceres-Negros FC and Than Quang Ninh FC faced members of the press earlier today at the Century Park Hotel in Manila. With differing fortunes after their first match in the AFC Cup group stage.

Coming off a 4-1 loss to Indonesian champions Bali United, Than Quang Ninh manager Phan Thanh Hùng expressed a hope that their best efforts tomorrow would net them at least a point, while midfielder Nghiem Xuan Tu echoed his gaffer’s sentiments, acknowledging that their efforts against Bali United were not to their expectations and expressing their admiration for Ceres’ record in AFC competition.

Addressing the fact that Jamaican striker Andre Fagan will not be available, the Miners have accepted his unavailability and will work to make up for it.

As for the hosts, coming off a comprehensive 4-0 win over Cambodian champions Svay Rieng, coach Risto Vidakovic is espousing patience, noting that it’s still a long run in the Cup and that the second round, where they play on the road the whole way, is the more important test.

“It’s another game. We had a good start so we just want to continue where we left (off). We just want to follow the gameplan of the coach. We have to execute it, believe in our strengths, do what we have to do and get the win,” said by Manny Ott in agreement to Coach Vidakovic’s sentiment.

Ott, meanwhile, expressed joy that he would be able to play his first two games back from injury at home. Coach Risto noted that the entire squad save Super Herrera is good to go for tomorrow.

The match between Ceres-Negros and Than Quang Ninh FC will be at 7:30 PM tomorrow at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
