After completing the first round of matches in their respective groups, three-time Philippines Football League champions Ceres-Negros FC and 2019 PFL Runners-up Kaya FC-Iloilo waits on the wings for their next group stages matches following the suspension of the matches announced by the AFC.
On Wednesday, October 18, 2020, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced through their website that they’ll be postponing all AFC Cup 2020 matches due to the flight restrictions and further preventive measures to fight the spread of COVID-19.
“The decision, which was also made in conjunction with the competing clubs and their respective Member Associations, is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participating players and teams, match officials and spectators as well as designed to protect the integrity of the competition.”
The AFC will also continue to monitor the situation before deciding on when the competition will resume.
After the first round of matches, Ceres-Negros FC found themselves at the top of Group G with two wins and a draw while Kaya FC-Iloilo sits on second place with a win and two draws.
At the resumption of the competition, Ceres-Negros FC will play all of their games away from home while Kaya FC-Iloilo will play at home against PSM Makassar.
