Still waiting for the season to start? Don’t know what to do and getting bored in the house? Do you have that itch of playing or watching football again? Worry no more as we try to give you something to do while waiting for the new season!
It’s been over three months now since the supposed start of the 2020 Philippines Football League presented by Qatar Airways but because of the COVID-19 pandemic that froze the entire world, we’re stuck here waiting as to when the league will start in accordance with the guidelines set forth by National Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and the Games and Amusements Board (GAB).
While waiting for the new season, here are the five things you can do to ease up the boredom and to improve your football knowledge as well.
1) Re-live the 2019 Philippines Football League Season
This is a must for all of your Philippine Football fans. Whether you’re new to the sport or a die-hard fan of your favorite club, you can do this if you really miss some local football action.
It is worth noting that the PFL has streamed some of the games live through Facebook so that it can be accessible for every football fan out there.
If you also want to re-live the time when Ceres-Negros FC sealed their domestic double, you can watch the final of the Copa Paulino Alcantara through the same page.
2) Look back through history by watching The Azkals matches
The passion that’s burning to this day was ignited by one defining moment, The Miracle in Hanoi. Sad to say, we can’t find any full match clip but you can definitely watch how they did it by clicking here for the highlights of that match.
After the Miracle in Hanoi, the Philippines were on a continuous rise from being the whipping boys of Southeast Asia to one of the region’s powerhouse nation and Asia’s most promising country.
Another thing we can suggest for you to watch if you want to see how great the team improved after 2010? Well, two matches, the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 match against Vietnam and the 2014 edition against Indonesia.
These matches showed how huge the Philippine Azkals leaped from where they were a couple of years ago.
3) Taste the victory that sent us to the 2019 AFC Asian Cup
Ahhhh. That sweet victory during that glorious night of the 27th of March 2018. The most memorable by far after the Miracle in Hanoi. Keep in mind we only needed a draw to progress to the group stages of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
This match was full of emotions. It will make you cry, laugh, or both at the same time. All that I can say is that you’ll feel like you’re in a rollercoaster ride. Click here to re-live that magical night!
4) Experience the game, virtually
Any gamers out there? You can learn and experience the game first-hand if you have your smartphone or console with you!
Anyone who loves football wants to play the game but during these trying times where we’re not allowed as well to play on the pitch, you can try to polish or take your skills in the virtual field by playing FIFA 20.
Not only you get to play with your favorite football club, you can also play online and you’ll never know, you may come across professional football players from the country like OJ Porteria or Kenshiro Daniels to name a few.
They suited up for the Philippines during 1 Play Sports’ SEA Nation’s Cup, an online tournament that featured the region’s top FIFA Ultimate Team players. Click here to watch their match against Indonesia.
5) Listen or watch to some football podcasts
During this pandemic, it’s not only the fans who miss the action. There are broadcasters, commentators and journalists as well that miss being in the stadium covering the matches and bringing you the latest news.
Luckily, there are a few podcasts created by your local journalists to help you cope up with this lockdown as they bring in various guests to talk about how they’re doing during the quarantine period as well as some updates on how football is going to return in the country.
Through his podcast, we get to look into how the players are doing as well as some updates on the return of football here in the Philippines.
Another one you can tune in to is Cedelf Tupas’ CPT Crossover Podcast. With the help of his podcast, he’s bridging the gap between football, basketball, and more recently, volleyball fans by having them in his show for updates about their respective sport.
And lastly, for a podcast made by the fans for the fans, you can listen in to The Ultimate Fan Hub Podcast. In this podcast, they talk to various sports personalities to give us an update about them.
Be it football, basketball or any other sport, you name it, they will talk about it. This will surely help you fill that void of missing some sports action.
There you have it. We hope we helped you find some options for you to explore in terms of taking away the boredom brought about by this pandemic. You get to enjoy football while staying safe at the comforts of your own home!
