The football fireworks continued in today’s 2020 Philippines Football League brought to you by Qatar Airways triple-header as the Azkals Development Team put on a show in thumping Maharlika Manila FC 5-0.
The first half was cagey, with both teams poking and prodding to find each other’s soft spots, and while the Young Azkals controlled possession Maharlika were able to withstand the initial wave, taking the game to a scoreless first half. The floodgates opened in the second half, however, as ADT gaffer Scott Cooper’s tactical adjustments proved to be a masterstroke, specifically the introduction of Lance Ocampo on the right flank. His running proved to be a massive threat, which laid bare on the hour as a scramble in the box from an Ocampo run led to a penalty awarded to the ADT, which Jarvey Gayoso duly converted. Five minutes afterward, another break for the Young Azkals led to an Ocampo run and a cutback for Hibernian loanee Yrik Gallantes to make ot two, and Chima Uzoka put on a third in the 76th minute with a good strike. A shellshocked Maharlika side attempted to fight back, but the inexorable ADT press lead to more breaks, with Uzoka and Gayoso eventually nicking second goals for themselves in stoppage time to seal a thumping victory.
